Maryland Governor Larry Hogan spoke with Judy Woodruff from PBS NewsHour to discuss his management of the coronavirus crisis in his state and what he expects to happen in the coming days and weeks. Hogan spoke about his home state and also about the country in general since he is the chair of the National Governors Association, saying how "proud" he is of his fellow governors' response to the pandemic.
Larry Hogan Issues Stay-At-Home Order for Maryland
Governor Larry Hogan issued a stay-at-home order for the state of Maryland, citing medical experts who advised him that the DC, Virginia and Maryland areas could soon mirror the coronavirus crisis in New York. Hogan discussed what his order does and doesn't do, stressing that residents can leave their home for essential services and exercise, but that large gatherings of any type will not be allowed. People who violate the directive may be subject to one year in jail, a $5,000 fine or both.
Larry Hogan Executive Orders Concerning Coronavirus
Maryland Governor Larry Hogan ordered all nonessential businesses to close in an effort tamp down on the spread of the coronavirus in his state. The governor listed essential businesses as being ones that provide medical care, food providers and groceries, lodging and hotels, home-improvement supply stores, laundry services, self storage, large manufacturers, among others. The order also stresses that he is not preventing residents from leaving their homes.
